Metra App Redesign
Making everyday travel simpler for the novice and the pro

Introduction

Right now there are 3 apps that most public transit users in Chicago will utilize. Ideally, that would be just one app. This app combines all 3.

Challenge
The Metra app, Ventra app, and even other third-party apps such as Google or Apple Maps are often used to navigate the Chicagoland train and bus system. Although possible to learn, this complex combination of apps adds to the stress of navigating public transit for users.
Research

The majority (66.7%) of users said that the apps they used to navigate transit were only somewhat easy to navigate. Many users commented that information was difficult to find on the apps, however, they felt that the apps ultimately did the job.

Most users don’t have an issue with the Ventra app, and they appreciate being able to load money easily and pay for tickets digitally.

Conclusion
Redesigning this app gave me the opportunity to research existing products and build off of them, while adding in my own new features and functionality. Keeping both the user and the rail system in mind were the main goals of this project.
